Screaming Hawk Guide: Book One

This study guide is intended to present suggestions for a book study rather than rigid rules to follow. The only true rule to follow is “Do what works rather than what doesn’t.” As such, the following are suggestions and recommendations, but you are welcome to lead your study session in whatever manner works for you.

The “leader” of the book study should view him or herself as a fellow traveler rather than the one that has all the answers. The main role of the leader is to start the group on time, end it on time and make sure that everyone present has an opportunity to speak if they wish to. It can also be helpful if the leader takes responsibility for bringing the discussion back to the subject matter if it gets too far afield. The leader’s job is not to teach the material in the book but to encourage the group to explore and discuss the material together. Keep in mind that there are no right or wrong answers. And most of all, have fun along the way.

Although most of the chapters are very short, many people report that they like to read Screaming Hawk one or two chapters at a time to give the lessons time to percolate and soak in. One way to do a book study for this book is to read one chapter per day and meet weekly to discuss the material. With this schedule, Book 1 of Screaming Hawk could be completed within six weeks.

The following questions are designed to help stimulate the discussion if needed. Feel free to use some of them, all of them, or none of them. Remember, do what works.

  1. What passages caught your attention?

  2. Did any of Flying Eagle’s teachings make sense to you personally?

  3. Did any of Flying Eagle’s teachings surprise you?

  4. Did any of Flying Eagle’s teachings remind you of an experience you have had?

  5. Do you relate to any of the experiences of Flying Eagle’s student?

  6. Are there any of Flying Eagle’s teachings that you find confusing at this point?

  7. Do you agree with Flying Eagle’s teaching that much of the time understanding is not particularly important?
